Anyone interested in an old-school Braille Blazer?

hi! I have a braille blazer that isn't compatible with either my or my husband's computer, since we don't have any serial ports. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to buy it, and a full box of braille paper, off me?

I'd take it if I didn't already have one. I love! my Braille Blazer. But note that it has parallel as well as serial, so if you don't have a serial port, you could always plug it into the parallel port if you have one. For those interested in buying it, though, I'll say that it's a great little machine and even has built-in speech with very easy-to-use menus. It can also serve as a synthesizer providing that both ports on the machine are working. Mine actually has a problem with it's serial port and I can't use the parallel for printing and speech at the same time without it slowing everything down. It's pretty fast and also lightweight for an embosser, at only 12 lbs. It even has a handle for carrying. It takes tractor-fed paper. One of the amazing things about this machine is that, along with the braille paper that it would be expected to use, it can also handle standard printer paper! You just need to adjust it so that the braille is lighter on the page. I could go on and on about the advantages and joys of owning a Braille Blazer but don't want to hog up the thread.

I agree. It is nice. I just don't have a serial or parallel port on my computer.

I use mine with my computer, but the inside of it keeps getting dusty, and it keeps skipping spaces. I have to say that I'd use microsoft sam before I'd use the ArtTalk synthesizer on it. It's so monotone, and the pronunciation--ugh!

Kate, there are USB to Serial adapters which will allow you to borrow one of your USB ports as a serial port.
They're not that expensive, or weren't a few years ago.
I haven't used a serial port in six years but know those adapters work.

I completely forgot about those adapters. But yes, they are available for usb to serial and usb to parallel.

Aw, I would take it if I could. We have one of those new ones and they are loud as hell. That's one thing I miss about the old one that we had and secondly they are light weight and more easier to use too.

I thought modern things were supposed to be quiet, light and easy to use. I guess they regressed on printers. *smile* That or you have a big industrial model or something.

My potential buyer chose not to purchase this due to events in her personal life making it impossible to do. Anyone interested?

How much were you wanting for it? Please reply also via zone email if possible. And sorry to here about the fall-through. Getting stiffed, miliciously or not, isn't fun.
